Above all else, I work from a perspective of awe and respect for the intelligence of the human body.
I relate to bodywork as facilitating each body's inherent intelligence -- towards regulation, comfort, and ease.
It is an honor to encourage this regulation with each person, together finding the doorways in,
in order to connect to this capacity independently as well as during sessions.
This means that my work operates from a place of listening and intuitive touch first, rather than directive and aggressive massage/manipulation.
To me, pain and injury are symptoms of a greater challenge in the body. When, for example, someone has low back pain, it is most often not simply caused by a local issue, but linked to other areas of the body and to that person’s layered experience.
Connecting these dots and encouraging each body back to balance is thus necessary for relieving pain in an effectual and lasting way. Finding out how to make these shifts is how I can help.
My sessions draw on a combination of manual therapy techniques, including Craniocacral Therapy, visceral manipulation, deep-tissue massage, and myofascial release. I am also informed by a lifetime of movement practice and somatic inquiry. Sessions offer healing relaxation (time in the parasympathetic nervous system, where our self-healing mechanisms act at their highest potential), relief from chronic pain, and tools for mindful awareness and proprioception (experience of your body in space).
I look forward to supporting your body in its orientation towards well-being.

"In my experience of Shaina's bodywork, she begins from a place of potent kinesthetic knowledge and listening, and incorporates a caring and respect for each person's own innate physical wisdom. This translates to sessions that are transformative in a variety of different ways, always well equipped to meet me at whatever place I'm arriving at on that particular day. I would recommend her work to anyone interested in tapping into and exploring their own capacity towards vitality and self healing, as she is a master at helping unleash that quality in each of us."
-Dr. Adam Brady, PT
